How To Position Images in Your Document

If you have inserted an image or a piece of clip art into your Microsoft Word document, you may still need to tell Word how to position the image in your document. This automatically positions the image with Square Text Wrapping.

  1. Select your image.
  2. To position clip art or a photograph,click the Picture Tools tab.
  3. To position an AutoShape, click the Drawing Tools tab.
  4. To position SmartArt, click the SmartArt Tools Format tab.
  5. Click Position on the Arrange group.
  6. Click the location where you want to position the image.Your choices are:
  • Click Position in Top Left With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located in the upper left corner of your document with text wrapped on the right and bottom borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Middle Left With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located in the middle of the left margin of your document with text wrapped on the top, right and bottom borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Bottom Left With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located in the bottom left corner of your document with text wrapped on the top and right borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Top Center With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located on the top margin in the middle of your document with text wrapped on the left, right and bottom borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Middle Center With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located in the center of your document with text wrapped on completely around all of the borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Bottom Center With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located on the bottom margin in the center of your document with text wrapped on the left, top and right borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Top Right With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located in the upper right corner of your document with text wrapped on the left and bottom borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Middle Right With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located in the middle of the right margin of your document with text wrapped on the top, left and bottom borders of the image.
  • Click Position in Bottom Right With Square Text Wrapping to have the image located in the bottom right corner of your document with text wrapped on the top and left borders of the image.
