Once you have outlined your template, it is time to put your plan into action and create the template. To begin work on your WordPerfect template, you must first open a blank template file:

1. From the File menu, select New from Project

2. On the Create New tab of the PerfectExpert dialog box, Click the Options button

3. On the pop up list, select Create WP Template

A new document will open. It appears and functions the same as any other WordPerfect document, with the exception that the Templates toolbar will appear and that when you save it, it will, by default, have a different file extension.

Once you have edited the file, inserting all the elements from your outline, save the document by using the Ctrl + S shortcut key. The Save Template dialog box will open:

1. In the box beneath the Description: label, enter a description of the template; while the description is important, the name of your template should be clear enough that you won’t need to refer to it

2. In the box beneath the Template name: label, enter a name for your template

3. Select a category for your template from the list beneath the Template category label. It is important to select the best category for your document; when you later create a document based on the template, the category will narrow your search

4. When you have made your selections, click OK

You have successfully created a template that you can use over and over again!
