The buttons on the lists and indentation section of the formatting toolbar will help you get things lined up and numbered correctly. If there is one feature in Word that has driven people to near madness, it would most likely be numbered lists. Fortunately, Microsoft has done a good job of making improvements to this feature with the past few releases of Word!

Numbering: Turns on the numbering feature for lists.
Bullets: Turns on the bulletting feature for lists.
Decrease Indent: Moves the indentation one tab-stop to the left.
Increase Indent: Moves the indentation one tab-stop to the right.
