Honestly, I can’t count the times that I have sat through meetings, all of us with the same document in front of us, flipping pages to try and find the same paragraph or sentence. It took me years to figure out how Line Numbers can help in meetings or actually anytime two or more people are working on the same document. Instead of saying, let’s look at the 18th sentence in the 3rd paragraph on page 12, you can say, let’s look at line 418. It takes the guess work out of working in a group with a document!

About Word Perfect Line Numbers
Word Perfect automatically numbers lines for you.You can decide how Microsoft Word 2010 handles Line Numbers. For example, you can apply Line Numbers to specific paragraphs, or even number in increments, like every 10th line. Then, when it is time to finalize the document, you simply remove the line numbers and voila! You are ready to go with no frustrating flipping of pages and hunting for lines during meetings and group projects!
Add Line Numbers to a Document
- Click in the paragraph that you want numbers or select the text that you want numbered. If you want all of the lines in a document numbered, press CTRL + A to select the entire document.
- Hover your mouse over the Line sub-menu.
- Select Numbering.
- Select the Turn Line Numbering On check-box.
- Click OK.
Line Number Options
- Click in the paragraph that you want numbers or select the text that you want numbered. If you want all of the lines in a document numbered, press CTRL + A to select the entire document.
- Hover your mouse over the Line sub-menu.
- To choose a numbering method, such as Roman Numerals or Letters, select a numbering method from the Numbering Method list box.
- To set the starting line number, type a number in the Starting Line Number box.
- To set the first printed line, type a number in the First Printed Line Number box.
- To specify which line numbers to print, such as every tenth one, type a number in the Numbering Interval box.
- To include blank lines when numbering, select the Count Blank Lines check box.
- To restart line numbers on each page, select the Restart Numbering On Each Page check box.
- To change the position of line numbers, select either From Left Edge Of Page to specify the distance from the left edge of the page, or Outside Left Margin to specify the distance from the left margin to the line number, and then type the position value in the corresponding field.
Format Line Numbers
- Click in the paragraph that you want numbers or select the text that you want numbered. If you want all of the lines in a document numbered, press CTRL + A to select the entire document.
- Hover your mouse over the Line sub-menu.
- Click Format Line Numbering.
- Click Font.
- In the Line Numbering Font dialog box, choose a font from the Face list.
- Choose a font size from the Size list box.
- Change the line number color by clicking the color picker on the Color field and selecting a color.
- Select an appearance for your line numbers by checking the following options: Bold, Italic, Underline, Outline, Shadow, Small Caps, Redline, or Strikeout.
- Click OK.
