Keyboard - - Logitech DiNovo Edge

About.com Rating 4.5

By , About.com Guide

The Bottom Line
The DiNovo Edge is a stunning keyboard. It has many features that you won't find on any other keyboard. But, it is not without its flaws. A less cramped touchpad would have been nice, as would a numeric keypad.

But despite its shortcomings, anyone would be ecstatic to own this keyboard. During my evaluation period, several friends stopped by and were immediately drawn to the Edge. They were wowed by the DiNovo Edge's design.

But the DiNovo Edge is offers much more than a stunning design. Simply put, it is a delight to use. If you are looking for a top-notch keyboard, this is the one for you.

Guide Review - Keyboard -- Logitech DiNovo Edge
One may question spending almost $200 US on the DiNovo Edge. You can purchase a keyboard for less than $10 US or a wireless one for $40. But this is the Edge, a razor-thin marvel Logitech dubs the world’s most advanced keyboard.

That’s a lofty claim. But having sampled a fair number of keyboards, I believe it. After a few hours of using the diNovo Edge, I don't want to use any other keyboard.

The DiNovo Edge’s design is impeccable. It is a delight to behold; Logitech’s promotional pictures simply do not do this keyboard justice. The surface is black Plexiglas complemented with a brushed aluminum hand rest.

It weighs in at two pounds and measures under half an inch thick. Despite its measurements, it still feels substantial. That’s largely thanks to the solid keystroke feel.

The DiNovo Edge uses scissor switch technology. This terminology may not mean anything to most. But once you use the DiNovo Edge to type a few words, you’ll understand. Keystrokes are smooth and responsive, not too soft, not too hard. Sound feedback is optimal.

Beneath the smoky Plexiglas surface are lights that illuminate when you press a button. Otherwise, the surface is clean and undistracting.

Buttons allow you to zoom in or out of a Window, another launches Windows Media Player. But one of the best features is the ability to switch between open windows by pressing both of the buttons of the mouse pad. And the mouse pad features technology that allows you to scroll both vertically and horizontally within a window.

And, of course, the included software lets you customize your options, something one would expect with a keyboard of this caliber.

The one thing that prevents me from giving the DiNovo Edge a flawless review is the absence of a numeric keypad. As one who crunches numbers, I miss it.
