Editing Headers and Footers
The Close Button on the Header and Footer Ribbon

Click the Close button on the Header and Footer ribbon to close the headers and footers and return to the main body of your document.

To exit the header or footer, click the Close button on the Header and Footer ribbon. Or, double click in the body of your document. The header and footer will close so you can edit your document text.

You will see your header or footer in light gray text when you are in Print Layout view. It will not be visible in other document views. To edit it, double click it.

You can work with headers and footers the same way you work with the body of your document. You can click on buttons in ribbons. This means you can change the font and formatting. You can also copy text from the body of your document and paste it into a header or footer or vice versa.
