Inserting Line Numbers in Word 2007 Documents

By , About.com Guide

Line numbering can help you refer to specific parts of your document. So you may want to number the lines in your document. Fortunately, Word 2007 makes it easy to add line numbering to your document’s margins. It is ideal for legal documents.

To add line numbers to your Word 2007 document, follow these steps:

1. Open the Page Layout ribbon

2. Click Line Numbers in the Page Setup section

3. Select your options from the popup menu

You can have line numbers run continuously through your document. You can also have the line numbering restart on each page or following section breaks. If you’ve already applied line numbering to your document, you can suppress it for a particular paragraph.

For more line numbering options, select Line Numbering Options from the menu. In the Page Setup dialog box, click Line Numbers. You can specify the beginning line number and the distance between the numbers and the text.
