Applying Styles in Word 2007

By James Marshall, About.com

Styles can greatly approve the appearance and readability of your document. By using styles, you can make sure formatting is applying uniformly throughout your document.

Word 2007 makes it easy to apply styles to select parts of your documents. On the Home ribbon, you’ll see a section dedicated to styles.

To preview a style, select a portion of your document. Then, hold your mouse over one of the styles buttons. You’ll get a quick preview. If you like the style, simply click the button.

Once you decide on the styles you will use for your document, you don’t need to use the buttons on the ribbon. Just press Ctrl + Shift + S to open the Apply Styles box.

The Apply Styles box can be moved to any part of the screen. You can apply styles directly from the box. Just select text and then use the dropdown list in the Apply Styles box to apply a style.
