3. Change the Default File Save Location

Most users are perfectly contented with Word 2008's file save location. By default, all files are saved to the Documents folder.

But, maybe your computer's hard drive is filling up quickly. Or, maybe you want to save them to a server so co-workers can access the files.

In that case, it is time to change Word's default file save location. You specify the location where new files should be saved. When it comes time to save a file, you won't have to navigate through tiers of folders to find the right location!

5. Run a Compatibility Report

Document compatibility has improved considerably over the years. It is possible to exchange documents between different programs running on different machines.

However, you will still encounter document compatibility problems. That's even true with Word documents ported between Windows and Mac versions of Word.

So do yourself a favor. Run a compatibility report on any document you'll be sharing with Windows users. It will save a lot of time and frustration down the road, when you're trying to solve what went wrong.

6. Create Your Own AutoCorrect Entries

AutoCorrect could probably take the reward for the most annoying feature in Word 2008. It corrects the words you type as you type. You may not even notice the corrections.

Fortunately, AutoCorrect does a pretty good job most of the time. But, there are moments when it fails miserably. And it tends to fail in critical places.

In that case, you'll want to customize AutoCorrect. Change the entries that commonly trip you up. You can even add your own entries--creating shortcuts that speed up your typing! Get started with it now!
