Office 2008 for Mac Review

Office 2008 Versions

As with earlier editions of Mac Office, there are several different versions of Office 2008.

There is the Home and Student version which is perfect for most users. It includes Word, Excel, Entourage and PowerPoint.

Most business users will go with the Standard version of Office 2008. In addition to the programs available in the Home and Student version, the Standard version supports Microsoft Exchange and Apple Automator functions. The support for Microsoft Exchange alone makes Office 2008 a good choice for businesses that predominantly use Windows machines.

There's also a Special Media Edition of Office 2008. It offers all the features of the Standard version. However, it includes Expressions, Microsoft's answer to Adobe's Dreamweaver HTML editor.

Unfortunately, no version of Office 2008 contains a database program. So those hoping for a version of Access that will run on the Mac operating system are out of luck.

Office 2008 in Conclusion

Microsoft Office Mac 2008 is a worthy successor to Mac Office 2004. The new interface will be a boon to both new and experienced users of Microsoft Office. New users will appreciate easy access to formatting elements and commands.

Experienced users will also appreciate the improved layout. It makes work in Office much faster and more efficient. But the changes aren’t enough to disrupt your workflow.

That said, most home users can probably skip the upgrade to Office 2008. Aside from improved design features and small enhancements, there are few compelling reasons to upgrade.

Things are different for business users. Support for Entourage and the new Office formats make Office 2008 mandatory for environments where Office 2007 prevails.
