Track Changes Makes Document Collaboration Easier

From , former About.com Guide

Track Changes is one of the most helpful features in Microsoft Word 2008. That is particularly true if you frequently collaborate with others. The Track Changes feature tracks the insertions, deletions and formatting changes you make to a document. During the review process, your collaborators can accept or reject the changes you make individually.

Of course, you need to know how to use Track Changes to take advantage of it. To enable Track Changes in Mac Word 2008, follow these easy steps:

1. If it isn’t displayed, show the Reviewing toolbar by clicking View>>Toolbars>>Reviewing

2. Click Track Changes on the Reviewing toolbar

With Track Changes enabled, edit your document as you normally would. Word will make annotations in your document as you work. This can be distracting. Fortunately, you can change what Word displays as you’re editing. To change the way Word displays changes, follow these steps:

1. On the Reviewing toolbar, click the box that says Final Showing Markup

2. Choose Final

Word won’t display the tracked changes. Instead, you’ll see the final version of the document without any tracked changes. Just select another view option if you want to see the original version of the document or the tracked changes. You can also use the Show menu to show or hide specific tracked changes.
