Pairing a Bluetooth Keyboard to the iPad

The iPad's virtual keyboard is find for typing quick email messages and surfing the Web. But, if you want to use iWork Pages on the iPad for creating longer documents, you'll want a larger physical keyboard. Fortunately, you can pair a Bluetooth wireless keyboard to the iPad.

The Bluetooth keyboard you connect to the iPad does not need to be the Apple wireless keyboard. You should be able to use any Bluetooth keyboard with the iPad.

Pairing a Bluetooth keyboard to the iPad is much like pairing Bluetooth stereo headphones to the iPad. Just follow these simple steps:

1. First you will need to turn on the Bluetooth keyboard and make it discoverable. Instructions should be provided with the keyboard

2. On the iPad, Tap Settings

3. Tap General and select Bluetooth

4. Slide the Bluetooth toggle to on

5. Wait for your keyboard to appear in the list of Bluetooth devices

6. Select the keyboard

7. If prompted, enter the PIN or passkey that came with the keyboard

8. You will see they keyboard name on the screen

You can begin using the Bluetooth keyboard. When you're done using the keyboard, turn the keyboard off. Or, turn off Bluetooth on the iPad. You will not be able to use the iPad's virtual keypad while a Bluetooth keyboard is connected.
