Recent versions of Word have started displaying a button on the Windows taskbar for each Word document you have open. While this allows you to switch easily between documents when youre working on several at a time, it can lead to a cluttered taskbar if you have other applications open.
If taskbar clutter is slowing you down, you can have Word display only one button in the taskbar by following these steps:
1. On the Tools menus, select Options
2. Click the View tab
3. In the section labeled Show, deselect Windows in Taskbar
4. Click OK
To switch between documents, you will need to select the name of the document you wish to view on Words Window menu.
If you change your mind, you can easily have Word display all document windows in the taskbar by following the above steps to select the Windows in Taskbar option.
