Enabling or Disabling AutoComplete

By James Marshall, About.com

Word's AutoComplete feature is designed to make your work easier by suggesting words as you type. While the AutoComplete feature doesn’t make suggestions for every word, it will make suggestions when it determines you’re typing a date, the name of the registered owner of the software, or any other entries in the AutoText list.

Ironically, like many other of the automatic features introduced in recent versions of Word, some users may find the AutoComplete feature a nuisance or obtrusive. Fortunately, you can decide for yourself whether or not you want to leave this feature on.

To turn AutoComplete on or off, simply follow these steps:

1. Select AutoCorrect from the Tools menu

2. Click the AutoText tab

3. Clear the check box beside Show AutoComplete suggestions to turn AutoComplete off (or check the box to turn AutoComplete on)

4. Click OK
