If you’re working on a long document, Word’s Styles feature can help you automate the formatting of your document with a minimum of effort. While there are predefined styles, you can create your own styles or modify an existing style.

To create a chapter heading style that will automatically insert a page break before any text you define as a chapter heading, follow these steps:

1. Click the styles and formatting toolbar button

2. In the Styles and Formatting pane, click New Style

3. In the New Style dialog box, type a name for your style in the Name box

4. In the Style type box, select Paragraph

5. Use the controls beneath the Formatting label to select your font and its attributes; the controls function like the formatting toolbar

6. click Format and select Paragraph from the pop up list

7. In the Paragraph dialog box, click the Line and Page Breaks tab

8. Select Page break before

9. Click OK

10. Click OK

To apply the style to text, simply select the text and click the style name on the Styles and Formatting pane.
