Using Macros to Format Select Text

By James Marshall, About.com

If you frequently need to format text in a very specific way that involves numerous options, creating a macro can be a very effective time-saver. While it may appear difficult, if not impossible, to use a macro to format only select parts of your document, it is really quite simple:

1. Select a portion of the document
2. Turn on the macro recorder
3. Apply your formatting
4. Turn off the macro recorder

To use the macro in the future, simply select the text to which you want to apply the formatting before you run the macro; the changes will be applied to that portion only. Text entered after you run the macro will retain the formatting of the rest of the document.
