By James Marshall, About.com

Definition: A macro is a series of commands that is recorded and assigned a keystroke so that it can be played back at a later time. A macro can be used to format documents, enter text, and/or execute vba code. Because of its ability to execute commands, it is important to ensure that a macro comes from a trusted source.
